Tom Amarque (* 21. November 1974 in Eutin, is a German philosopher, author, editor, translator and podcaster[1]. He is founder of the German publishing house Phänomen-Verlag[2] and founder of Parallax-Media.[3]
Career
[edit]Amarque was till 1997 co-editor of the MinD-Magazin. He published the podcast Lateral Conversations between 2015 and 2020. There he conducted interviews with Jordan Peterson, Ken Wilber and Stephen Hicks.[4]. Peterson used the interview as an episode in his podcast in 2017.[5]
Phänomen Publishing
[edit]In 2007, he founded the publishing house Phänomen in Mallorca, Spain, and is now based in Palma, where he endeavours to capture new movements in philosophy, psychology and spirituality. Authors of the publishing house include Ken Wilber, Alexander Bard, David Korten, Ulrike Guerot, Tomas Björkman, Timothy Leary, Robert Anton Wilson, Daniel Christian Wahl, John C. Lilly, Raoul Eshelman, and Pope Benedict XVI.[6]
Parallax Media
[edit]Amarque is the founder and publisher of Parallax-Media, which was launched in 2019, and the associated YouTube channel.[7] The main format of the magazine, which sees itself as an explicitly European medium, is recorded interviews and discussions. The associated Parallax Academy offers courses and seminars. The focus is on the attempt to offer new narratives and perspectives in a time of meta-crisis after postmodernism.[8] Interviews with philosopher Daniel Schmachtenberger and German political scientist Ulrike Guerot went viral.[9]
Philosophy
[edit]As an author, he writes non-fiction books on psychology, spirituality and philosophy as well as novels. His non-fiction books are written between the poles of subject philosophy and developmental psychology. The internationally recognised developmental psychologist Susanne Cook-Greuter called his book "The Will" a "new orientation map to self-knowledge". The philosopher and publicist Dr. Thomas Steininger wrote about the same book: "The book sets an example. [...] It shows how an exciting book about the 'evolutionary will', the will to evolve, emerges from intellectual acuity and spiritual depth".[10]
